History

Marco Island is the largest of Florida's Ten Thousand Islands and the southernmost developed Gulf-front community in southwest Florida. Modern development began in 1965 under the Mackle Brothers' Deltona Corporation master plan. The island incorporated as a city in 1997 and now hosts roughly 24,000 year-round residents, with the population multiplying during winter season.
